Steven Teran

Head Brewer

Steven Terán is a proud Chula Vista/Tijuana (Chulajuana) native who grew up embracing both sides of the border. He values his multicultural upbringing, which has shaped his unique perspective. A self-proclaimed big kid, Steven has always loved cartoons and comic books, which helped him navigate learning English as an ESL student in his early education.

His journey into brewing started at a young age, thanks to his maternal grandmother in Tijuana. There, he learned the art of homebrewing by helping her make homemade tepache and wine. It wasn’t until his third year at UC Santa Cruz that he was introduced to homebrewed beer at friends’ gatherings and began assisting with small batch brewing projects around town.

In the summer of 2015, Steven returned to San Diego to pursue the UC San Diego Brewer Certification program. That same year, he launched his professional brewing career at Acoustic Ales Brewing Experiment. After completing the program in 2017, he interned at Border X Brewing in Barrio Logan, where he helped optimize their 10BBL brew house and scale up core recipes. During this time, Steven brewed a special beer inspired by his partner, who was overjoyed to be the muse behind the creation.

Now, as a member of Chula Vista Brewery, Steven is eager to share the knowledge and experience he's accumulated over the years. He’s passionate about creating beers that showcase the best of his abilities, including the beer inspired by his partner, and can’t wait for everyone to try what he’s been crafting. Salud y Excélsior!
